    Job Description:

    As an Entertainer, you will bring the exciting world of pirates to life as part of our entertaining, high-energy shows! You’ll perform live shows, engage with guests, and be an integral part of the experience both on-site and at off-site events. Your role will require a passion for performance, a love for immersive experiences, and the ability to engage guests in memorable ways. All Entertainers will have the opportunity to become drivers for our offsite programming if they have necessary qualifications, training on this programming will result in a $1 raise. 

    Entertainer Key Responsibilities:

    Performance: Prepare and perform engaging, interactive pirate shows as directed by the Company’s leadership teams.

    Dinghy Operation: Obtain Pleasure Craft Operators Certification in order to operate our Dinghy in the role of the Villain!

    Audience Engagement: Stay in character and interact with the audience before, during, and after shows. Participate in shore activities such as face painting, pirate games, and costume engagement.

    Safety Protocols: Ensure the safety and well-being of all audience members, adhering to company safety guidelines and protocols, and completing bi-weekly safety training.

    Training & Attendance: Attend all required rehearsals, safety training, and scheduled performances. Notify management of any scheduling conflicts and work to find solutions.

    Site Maintenance Support: Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the performance site, including but not limited to taking out trash, sanitizing commonly touched surfaces, and reporting any issues related to props or equipment.

    Off-Site Events: Perform at off-site locations, such as workshops, festivals, and other events, as needed.

    Costume: Purchase and wear an approved pirate costume, with a stipend provided to help with the purchase.

    Front-of-House Support: Assist with guest check-in, responding to customer needs, and selling alcohol as required.

    Driver Key Responsibilities:

    Driving and Navigation: Safely operate the boatmobile trailer, ensuring adherence to traffic laws and company safety protocols.

    Maintenance and Repairs: Perform minor maintenance, repairs, or upkeep of the trailer and essential props during work hours, and promptly report any issues requiring further repair or outside the scope of your responsibilities to the Theatre team.

    Customer Communication: Communicate with customers to confirm arrival times, locations, and event details.

    Team Collaboration: Coordinate with other Trailer Drivers and off-site staff regarding schedules, checklists, maintenance updates, and troubleshooting.

    Skills & Qualifications:

    Strong performance and improvisational skills, with the ability to engage and entertain audiences of all ages.

    Comfortable working in an outdoor environment.

    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours, including weekends and some holidays.

    Ability to maintain safety protocols and ensure a positive guest experience.

    If interested in driving:

    Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

    Proficiency in towing, hitching, and parking trailers (training will be provided).

    Willingness to act as a liaison between Entertainers and Leadership to ensure smooth operations.

    Previous experience in live entertainment, trailer driving or customer service is a plus, but not required.

    Willingness to work in costume and engage in fun, interactive activities.

  • Maintenance Manager

    Job Description

    Pirate Life Theatre is seeking a Contracted Maintenance Manager to oversee weekly preventative maintenance, repairs, and safety checks across our vessel, cabana, props, and site infrastructure in Ottawa. This role is responsible for ensuring all operational assets remain safe, functional, and show-ready throughout the season.

    The Maintenance Manager works independently while coordinating closely with the Location Manager and Operations team to identify issues, complete repairs, and flag larger maintenance needs before they impact programming.

    Key Responsibilities

    Weekly Maintenance & Inspections

    Conduct scheduled weekly maintenance visits to all assigned sites and vessels.

    Perform preventative maintenance on:

    Vessels and onboard infrastructure

    Trailers and offsite equipment

    Site facilities, storage areas, and dock infrastructure

    Props, scenic elements, and operational equipment

    Identify wear, damage, or safety concerns and address them proactively.

    Repairs & Upkeep

    Complete minor to moderate repairs independently.

    Coordinate or recommend third-party contractors for larger or specialized repairs.

    Ensure all repairs meet safety, operational, and regulatory standards.

    Maintain tools, materials, and maintenance supplies as required.

    Safety & Compliance

    Monitor and report safety concerns related to facilities, vessels, and equipment.

    Ensure maintenance work aligns with internal safety protocols and Transport Canada standards (where applicable).

    Flag urgent or high-risk issues immediately to the Location Manager.

    Reporting & Communication

    Submit weekly maintenance reports outlining:

    Work completed

    Outstanding issues

    Recommended future repairs or upgrades

    Maintain clear communication with the Location Manager regarding timelines, costs, and priorities.

    Support troubleshooting as needed during peak operational periods.

    Coordination & Support

    Act as the primary point of contact for maintenance-related issues.

    Coordinate with Location Managers, Captains, and Operations staff to schedule maintenance around programming needs.

    Provide on-call support for urgent maintenance issues as agreed upon in the contract.

    Qualifications

    Proven experience in maintenance, facilities management, marine maintenance, or a related field.

    Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.

    Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.

    Familiarity with marine environments, trailers, or mobile operations is an asset.

    Ability to lift, carry, and work in outdoor environments.

    Valid driver’s license.

    Access to basic tools required for routine maintenance tasks.
